Cleaning wall lights and the care that will need to be taken with this is not something that might occur to you when you first buy them. And standard, modern lighting doesn’t need that much care – a dust or wipe down every now and then is fine. Vintage wall lights, however, may need more care than this if you want to keep them looking as lovely as when you first saw them. Alternatively, if they are reclaimed or truly vintage, you may need to give them a clean before you install them. It is a good idea to ask for advice about the specific wall light you have chosen because the cleaning regime does depend on what material it is made out of.
A vintage light might be more expensive than a modern one, and you don’t want to ruin its stunning looks by using the wrong kind of cleaning agent. An older wall light will have a certain patina to it, and you need to be careful not to clean too much of that away – that patina is what makes the whole thing so wonderful and interesting in the first place. Without it, the value and the beauty can easily diminish.
